Part Time worker in Malaysia now get EPF and Sosco Cover from Employers

It is good news to all part time workers in Malaysia, the work regulations (Part Time workers) 2010 now take effective 1 Oct 2010. Those who work between 30% and 70% of full time employees’ working hours (8 hours) shall consider as Part – Time workers. Whereas those who work less than 30% of full time employees’ working hours (8 hours) shall consider as casual worker. For those that working from home, including maids, telemarketers, data entry doesn’t cover by the new work regulations (Part Time Workers) 2010. Beside EPF and Sosco coverage by employers, the part time workers would be also eligible to enjoy benefits likes public holidays, annual leave, medical leave, off days and over-time allowance.

Part time worker will be able to enjoy better benefits such as Employee Provident Fund, Sosco and Medical coverage on pro rate basis. This new regulation takes effective on 1 Oct 2010. Employers must contribute EPF & Socsco as long as the part timer work between 30% and 70% of the number of hours clocked in by regular staff.

Human Resource Minister Datuk Dr S.Subramaniam said the new regulations which were gazetted recently, were aimed to protect the rights of part time workers in Malaysia. It expected to reduce dependency on the foreign worker and to encourage more Malaysians who were currently not working enter the labour force.
